What a prompt map is
Before you can be the answer, you need to know the questions. A prompt map is a structured list of what your customers ask AI assistants, typically 30 to 60 prompts, grouped into families that share an intent. It's the basis for both the paid placements we buy and the organic work we do, and it's the fixed yardstick behind your share of answers.
The four families we start with
- Discovery: "best X near me," "who does Y in [city]." Local, high-intent, usually the fastest to win.
- Comparison: "X vs Y," "is it worth paying more for Z." Rewards depth and honest content.
- Purchase-ready: "cost of," "same-week," "quote," "book." The prompts closest to money.
- Problem and education: "how do I," "what happens if," "do I need." Earlier in the journey, but the assistant often ends these answers with a recommendation.

How to build yours
- Start with real questions. Sales calls, support tickets, search console queries and your best customers' own words are better sources than guesswork.
- Write them the way people talk to AI. Full sentences, with context: location, budget, situation. "Roofer Austin" is a search query; "who's a reliable roofer in Austin that handles insurance claims" is a prompt.
- Group by intent, not by product. Families make the report actionable: you fix a family, not a prompt.
- Freeze it. Measure the same map every month. Add prompts in a new family rather than quietly swapping old ones.
